“Waiting for ‘Superman'” is a must-see
Last week I attended a screening of the new movie, Waiting for ‘Superman.’ It’s a powerful documentary about the tragic state of our public schools, created by the writer/director of “An Inconvenient Truth” and co-written with Billy Kimball, a brilliant writer with whom I’m working on another project.
The movie kept me up all night. It showed how 66% of eighth-graders in our country scored below grade level in math. Made me think: If young people can’t do math, how will they ever be able to understand the basics of a 401(k) or the fine print on their credit card statements or the fundamentals of savings? How will they become financially responsible adults who learn to live within their means?
The movie hits theaters this fall. You must see it! For now, go to waitingforsuperman.com. If you pledge to see the film, you’ll get $5 to donate to a classroom project of your choice via donorschoose.org. Over 30,000 people have pledged so far.
