In May 2012, the White House launched Money as You Grow—a new national initiative to teach parents the 20 things their kids need to know about money—at the White House Summit on Financial Capability and Empowerment.

As a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability, Beth Kobliner worked with her colleagues on this effort for 16 months, synthesizing the best available research, standards, and guidelines. The result is Money as You Grow, an online, interactive tool that features the 20 essential money milestones that kids need to know as they grow—along with behavior-changing, age-appropriate activities.

Here’s the latest on Money as You Grow:

  • More than one million people have visited since it launched in 2012.
  • More than a dozen partners, with a collective reach of 50 million+, have signed on to promote Money as You Grow—including the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the USDA (which sponsors the nation’s 4-H Clubs), the American Library Association, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National PTA, and Junior Achievement.
  • Moms are pinning, liking, and tweeting the site! A few great Pinterest comments:

“YES to this site! Great resource on raising money-savvy kids. From the President’s Advisory Council.” — Holly G.

“Wish I had this 30 years ago!” — Claire V.

“GREAT info for kids of all ages.” — Susan W.

“I know plenty of adults who could use this as well.” — Rena W.

  • Chosen by the American Library Association as one of their Great Websites for Kids.

Money as You Grow is an important tool for making sure the next generation doesn’t make the same mistakes that Americans have made in the past. The Council is proud to have reached one million visitors to the site, and hopes to reach many more.
